POSITION OVERVIEW

This role will support the LAND 8710 program by ensuring platforms are reliable, available, and maintainable across their lifecycle. The RAM Engineer will contribute to design, integration, and sustainment activities, using data-driven analysis to optimise performance and operational readiness. The position plays a critical role in supporting capability delivery in challenging littoral and maritime environments.

ABOUT THE CLIENT

Amentum is a global engineering and technical services provider supporting government and defence clients across complex programs. In Australia, Amentum delivers capability across Defence, infrastructure, and critical services, with a strong focus on systems integration, sustainment, and program delivery. The organisation works closely with Defence and industry partners to support mission readiness and long-term capability outcomes in highly regulated environments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyse and predict failure rates across propulsion, mechanical, electrical, and mission systems
  • Support operational readiness by contributing to availability and reliability targets
  • Model and optimise platform availability, including maintenance regimes and deployment cycles
  • Define and refine maintenance concepts, including scheduled and corrective maintenance
  • Support development of sustainment strategies for harsh environments (e.g. corrosion, remote operations)
  • Collaborate with systems engineering teams to influence design for reliability and maintainability
  • Embed RAM considerations into system and platform integration activities
  • Monitor in-service performance and identify trends such as failure modes and maintenance bottlenecks
  • Recommend improvements to enhance fleet availability and operational readiness
  • Contribute to spares modelling, support planning, and lifecycle cost optimisation
  • Support analysis of test, trial, and operational data to inform engineering decisions

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Systems, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering, or similar
  • Strong knowledge of reliability engineering principles, including failure analysis and statistical methods (e.g. Weibull analysis)
  • Experience with MTTR, MTBF, availability modelling, and reliability growth/degradation
  • Experience applying RAM principles within Defence maritime or land environments
  • Demonstrated experience in systems engineering, including lifecycle frameworks, requirements development, V&V, and integration
  • Strong experience in ILS principles and sustainment engineering
  • Proven capability in reliability modelling, data analysis, and interpretation of technical data
  • Experience analysing technical drawings, schematics, and test/trial data
  • Strong written communication skills, including development of technical reports (e.g. FMECA, RAM plans)
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Current NV1 security clearance

DESIRABLE SKILLS

  • Experience working on Defence amphibious or maritime capability programs
  • Familiarity with harsh environment engineering considerations (e.g. saltwater, corrosion)
  • Experience with spares modelling and support system optimisation
  • Exposure to Defence engineering governance and certification processes
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on lifecycle sustainment optimisation
